Singer Saara Aalto is to headline a Finnish-language version of the hugely popular musical We Will Rock You, based on the songs of legendary rock group Queen.
The production is coming to Helsinki in 2020, and Aalto was announced in the lead role of Scaramouche this morning in Helsinki. Other artists in the cast include Laura Voutilainen and Mikael Saari.
Some of Queen’s biggest hits like Bohemian Rhapsody, Another One Bites The Dust, and I Want To Break Free, along with the show’s spoken dialogue, have been re-worked in Finnish.
The musical tells the story of a group of friends who want to bring back fashion and music in a future where music is banned, and everyone thinks and acts the same way.
We Will Rock You was performed first in London’s West End in from 2002 until 2014, and has been produced in more than a dozen countries including Sweden and Norway.
Saara Aalto found international fame on Britain’s X Factor TV reality show, and went on to be a contestant on another UK reality TV show Dancing On Ice. She represented Finland at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest and continues to tour her music in Finland and the UK.
We Will Rock You opens in Helsinki in April next year.
